I traveled to Earth today with Katie. She has never seen Earth, not that she remembers anyway. When Annika was alive, we decided to make our life on Dorvan Five. For some reason, I remember it being more beautiful, more peaceful than it is. I had to take her to Earth one day, had to make her understand why the people of Voyager, that were so much a part of my life, why they wanted to get back so badly.

Earth is a beautiful place, full of beautiful people...like Kathryn Janeway.

Looking back on when we first met

As we walked down, past Starfleet headquarters...where I knew I would meet some of the people that I had lived with and loved, I hope I would see Kathryn.

But then again...maybe not.

I don't know anymore if I really want to see her. Her living in good health, yes her husband is gone, but I assume that she has moved on.

I assume she is okay...I hope she is still as okay as she always seemed to be on Voyager.

As I walk down the streets I see a woman, she resembles Kathryn, only harder, life has been hard on this woman.

I look harder...it is Kathryn...she's gained some weight. It looks good on her. "Kathryn?"

She looks at me and turns to flee. She doesn't want to see me, but I have to see her. This is her god daughter and she deserves to know who her godmother is. "Kathryn, I brought Katie to see you."

She turns around again. She looks harder. "Chakotay this isn't really a good time." As I look at her again, I realize. She hasn't just gained weight...she's expecting. I remember the changes that my wife went through when carrying my daughter.

She walks closer to me. "My god Kathryn, you're..."

She gives me a lopsided grin, "pregnant." She finishes the sentence.

"I believe so Chakotay. Sorry to surprise you, I didn't know..."

"…How to tell me about the baby after your husband's death?"

She nods and motions for me to follow her to a café just down the street.

Time is laying heavy on my heart
Seems I've got too much of it since we've been apart
My friends make me smile if only for a short while

We sit down and Katie sits between us. Kathryn gives her an awkward hug. "I'm waiting for Tom and B'Elanna, I think they'll be bringing Miral along. It's been a while since I've seen her."

The questioning look in her eyes tells me she's asking if it's the same for me. I nod. We look at Katie and I know what she's thinking. Then we see our former chief engineer and helmsman walking towards us.

Kathryn gets up. "B'Elanna, Tom."

They know something isn't right. "Hello Kathryn," then B'Elanna looks to Chakotay, "Chakotay?" It's more of a question than a hello.

"Hi B'Elanna, how's it going?" Then Miral toddles up beside them. Almost four years old now.

Kathryn opens her mouth. "Katie, this is your auntie B'Elanna, and your uncle Tom, would you like to go and play with their daughter Miral?"

Katie looks to her dad, "Dad...can I go for a bit?"

Chakotay grins and nods. "Of course, now be nice to your new friend Katie. Remember, I'll be close if you need me."

Kathryn gives B'Elanna a grateful look, it says thanks, and I'll tell you later.

They walk away leaving me alone with Kathryn. The moment of truth has arrived...

For now I have to wait
But baby if you change your mind
