*The mistake has been made and must be rectified. The gift has been given to one who is unwilling to accept, one who is undeserving of the privilege. A life is never a waste, but in this case the gift is. Chakotay was a correct choice as a father, but Kathryn as a mother was incorrect. The child will be born, but will not survive. The outcome has been decided.

On Voyager, Kathryn struggled through the contractions. They were now three minutes apart, and she knew the end was near. A feeling of foreboding and fear overwhelmed her.

*The timeline has been disrupted, the error must be corrected. If this child is taken she will not be able to live with herself. She is an important part of the equation; she is necessary for the crew to survive their trip home. *

"It's alright Kathryn, it's almost over. Soon we'll have our child, a perfect baby boy. Just one more push and it'll all be over."

"Chakotay, I can't."

"You have to Kathryn, this child needs you."

Kathryn bore down with all her might and as the child emerged and she heard his cries, she felt a cold blanket overtake her. There was a flash of light, and then there was nothing.

The gods felt her sorrow and her pain, and most surprisingly her love. She did love Chakotay. The outcome was correct, but the method was flawed.

Kathryn was immersed in darkness. Her senses were numbed. She was left with a phrase, a sentence that would later be crucial for her restoration and her happiness. *A dream is an answer to a question you have not yet learned how to ask.*
