The Original Moment
by: Francesca Reid
Chapter 2
It had been two weeks.
Chuck kept his sexual urges to himself.
For her, denial was a powerful institution.
The problem with denial was, it could only last for so long.
The weeks turned into months, two to be exact.
Chuck watched the moment disappear, and his life become devoid of the woman, and of the friend that he had essentially pined over for forever… it felt like.
The moment was now devoid of joy and had become a moment of hate.
Not love.
He wanted that innocence back.
The moment was forever gone, lost to the future.
Had the future disappeared, like his forever friend?
Chuck watched the days turn into months and become, the future.
He wanted that time back… he wanted his future and his friend back.
The problem wasthat time went on unhindered and unabaited for all.
He tried to make her come back to him; but he realized something like friendship and innocence could not be forced, and could not be rewound.
He cried for the moment of innocence that was forever lost.
She went back home and wouldn’t come back to him.
He wanted his home to be their home.
Love never stops for anyone, and lust goes on without stopping.
And Chuck lost himself in that moment that would not stop for anyone.
[2 months later – Hudson, New York]
Samantha was feeling exhausted. Waiting for Chuck to finally let go of the idea that she was his everything. She was his moment of truth, but in reality she was his fear and loss.
She was his moment.
She had been backing away from him. Hoping he’d leave her alone.
She needed the space. It was almost two months now and his forced actions had caused a result that Sam was not ready for.
The joke that he had made to her that night was becoming more true than she cared to admit.
Her slim fit jeans that her mother had bought her at Wumpy’s were getting tighter whether she wanted to admit it or not.
She called her best friend Susan and asked her to meet her at the tiny deli five minutes from her home.
She said she was with Angela and asked if she could bring her other friend with her.
The problem was Angela had a crush on
The truth wouldn’t seem real until she had admitted it to someone else.
She sat at the ta4ble at the small deli in Wumpy’s in wait.
“Sam!” Susie came barrelling through the door and hugging Sam almost barrelling her over in her excitement.
She hadn’t seen Sam in over a month. “So what happened? I have been waiting to hear from you for a couple of weeks now.”
She saw her best friend’s demeanor and she worried.
Susie stared at her. Something was not right.
She grabbed her friend’s hands.
“Chuck is worried about you too.”
Sam burst into tears. She stared at Susie. “That’s what I have to talk to you about."
She wiped the tears from Sam’s face.
Sam you are the best friend I could ever have asked for.
She stared at Susan. “Likewise hon.”
Sam stared at her best friend. “I have to tell you something Susan.”
Susan looked at her questioningy.
“It won’t feel real until I say it out loud.”
She stared at her friend. “Go ahead Sam.” Sam had tears streaming down her face now. “I think I’m pregnant.”
Susan’s mouth hung open in shock. “Were you trying to get pregnant?”
Sam shook her head as the tears started again.
"You need to tell Chuck, and I need... to kill him."
She looked at her straight on. "Is this what you want?"
"You know that I don't believe in abortion..."
Susan stared at her, "But you weren't trying to get pregnant?"
Sam shook her head, no . "I have to tell you how this happened."
Susan rolled her eyes. "I'm not that innocent."
She rolled her eyes and looked at her obnoxiously. "I know how baby's are made."
Sam started crying again, "You don't know how this one was made."
Susan pulled her into a hug between best friend's that are trying to make the other better.
Sam began her story.
How she was a virgin and how Chuck forced himself on her.
Susan stared at Sam. "This makes me hate him even more, for doing this to you."
Sam stared at Susie, "He really didn't do anything to me."
Susie put her arm out to stop Sam from making excuses for Chuck, "He forced himself on you and knocked you up, I think he did something."
Sam looked at her. "How is that not fair? I don't understand you. He hurt you, he's going to make you deal with this, then you defend him."
She shook her head, "I'm defending him not his actions”
"The way I see it they're one in the same."
Sam was mad now. "It's not that black and white."
Sam went to defend her friend when Susan stopped her. "Come on, anyone with half a brain can see you're not John's biological daughter."
Susan looked at her. "That decision your mom made all those years ago, is having deliterious repercussions on you now."
Sam wanted to defend her mother but realistically she knew it was true.
It was rape and he had stolen her virginity. "Susan you have to go, John is going to be home soon and I have to get the dishes done."
She waved at Sam. "You're going to have to tell your parents. You're starting to get a little paunch."
"Yeah and my pants are getting tighter."
Susan laughed didn't your mom just buy you those.
She nodded, "Good thing Wumpy’s has a sale on again." She paused looking at Susan. "I'll tell her this time she can look in the baby clothes section too."
"What do you think she'll say when you tell her?"
She stared at Susan. "I have no idea. I have to tell Chuck too. Looks like today is going to be a day of announcements." Susan laughed.
Susan looked at her. "Looks like it."
